The ELL Leadership Class was pioneered in Garland ISD by Mr. Roseo T. Caburian Jr. through the support and guidance of Ms. Debbie Weidner and the ESL Team at the time. From it's beginnings and conceptualization in Lakeview Centennial High School in SY 2010-2011, the program spread and was first named and became an actual class in South Garland High School in SY 2011-2012.
Today the class is being offered in other Garland ISD high schools, inspiring students with potentials to become the leaders that they may not have fathomed they can be due to limitations such as language proficiency, migrant status, and other hindrances typical of second language learners. This second semester of SY 2013-2014, as the teacher-facilitator of this program in South Garland, I am very excited to help spread the word about this class, and the huge and small actions that constitute the great bouts of inspiration that this class is capable of sharing.
In this blog we would like to share our "GOOD DEEDS" project. This is the umbrella of our sub projects that focuses of the idea that small random acts of kindness can change the world. Click on the links of the blogs of the students in this class found on the right side of the page...and be their witnesses that no act of kindness is too small not to create ripples that can become tidal waves.
It has been very exciting to create good deeds for anyone in need and in return they make the world a happier place.
ReplyDeleteI am so proud of y'all for pursuing the vision. This site will inspire many to join the fold. Thank you for acknowledging my tiny contribution. Our kids are in your very able hands, Mrs. Rutaquio :-)
ReplyDeleteWill our leaders help collect books for my community school here in the Philippines? Kids are bereft of books that can move their reading skills forward. Go international in your good deeds, please.
BE/ESL central office, staff and students in SGHS, LCHS, GHS and others will surely respond to my distressed plea for assistance on this regard. Please help educate kids in my community school It is at the bottom ten of the ranking list in our district due to unsatisfactory reading skills.
I know that this request will not fall in deaf ears and will not be received by short hands.
It has been very exciting to create good deeds for anyone in need and in turn make the world a happier place.
ReplyDeleteit's a really beautiful thing that we can count on people willing to create good deeds that are ready for a better world.
I think that if we show other people how to make good decisions on their life and if we training them and if we tell them to do that they need to help other people like we show them maybe they should do it...
ReplyDeleteIt is always good to make good deeds, but is way better when we do it really from the bottom of our hearts not hoping to receive something back... I am so glad that leadership class became one because it has thought me a lot of things and help me became a better person from day to day

ReplyDeleteI love this class because I love to help others. What I could do to help other out is by persuasive them to do the right thing and by telling them what I've done because it's always good to make good deeds.
ReplyDeleteYou need to help some one and how you will help hem to help another person
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how the class started because a group of students wanted to help the community and thanks to their actions this class has been formed. I am very happy that I have been affected by the "tidal waves" they created and now I am creating my own that will hit someone else and hopefully the chain of good actions can keep going and growing.
